March & April 2024

Azores & Madrid / Washington, DC

I am so behind on this post.  It has been crazy travel time for us.

The hubs surprised me with an anniversary trip to the Azores Islands and Madrid, Spain.  What amazing places, people, and food.  We explored San Miguel in 4 days.  We went to ancestral village & town of my Great Grandparents.  We went to the records department at the main library and received information about my family.  Amazing.

We then went to Madrid.  What a beautiful city, both the old town and the newer area.  We were able to see a Real Madrid game, bucket list itme...check!  We had an Airbnb in Plaza d' Sole and immersed ourselves in the area.  We had access to the metro, walked the old city, and ate more than any two people need to.  The Rialto Park was just beautiful and we spent a lazy afternoon walking the paths and enjoying the buskers and sights.  We also took a day trip to Toledo, the original capital city of Spain.  This Midevil Moorish city was amazing and the Cathedral was stunning.   We saw so much, did so much, but do feel like we left a lot on the table.

In April, literally 9 days from returning from Spain, we took a family vacation to Washington, DC.  I used to live within a 3 - 4 hour drive of DC growing up but never got to see the Cherry Blossoms in bloom.  Call it done and another bucket list item checked off.

We enjoyed the National Archives, Planet Word, Georgetown, Union Market, National Air & Space Museum, Museum of Natural History, National Botanical Gardens, Lincoln, Washington, Vietnam War, WW II Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, International Spy Museum, Union Station, and ate like calories don't count on vacation.

Both destination were amazing.  Check out my Instagram for the reels for both vacations. https://www.instagram.com/mkr_travel_ataffiliate/
